Bill Watterson Returns to Drawing Comics!
You heard right. Bill Watterson, creator of the beloved Calvin and Hobbes and one of the most legendarily reclusive artists in comic strip history, has returned to draw a Sunday newspaper strip once again. Before you freak out, no, it's not new Calvin and Hobbes. Instead, it's a three-strip guest stint on the very funny, and very meta, Pearls Before Swine. Hit the jump to see the comics and find out how this all came about.
Stephan Pastis, the creator of Pearls, explains the whole thing in his own blog post. He wrote to Bill after featuring him in one of his comic strips, hoping to chat with him. To his surprise, Bill responded with an idea for a comic strip. "I will do whatever you want, including setting my hair on fire," Stephan replied, and the idea went out.
You can read the strips below - they're very funny, and very Pearls. But since Watterson asked Pastis not to tell anyone he was drawing them until they were all out, no one knew a comics superstar had returned to the funny pages until it was all over. What a fantastic way to make a return, even a brief one. Check out all three strips below.
