Wizard World Philly Report!

I set out to take part in my first Wizard World Comic Con (and my first ever comic con!) on Thursday, May 7th, the kickoff day for the show. Accompanying me was my lovely partner-in-crime, Lisa. Traffic was light from New York to Philadelphia, so Lisa and I arrived fairly quickly, in about two hours. After checking in at the hotel, I started off walking the convention show floor as soon as possible. There weren't a ton of people on the first day, which didn't surprise me much because it was a weekday. Tons of merchandise stands with everything your nerdy heart could ever desire, as long as your nerdy heart wanted Funko Pop figurines. Seriously, they were everywhere. The convention exclusive Funko figurines I noticed were Stan Lee, and the Winchester brothers from Supernatural. I ended up picking up a Roger Rabbit Funko Pop figurine for Lisa. They got me. Or, rather, they got her.

David Lynch pulls out of Twin Peaks

Back in March, we reported on a rumor that the Twin Peaks revival might not be happening. David Lynch had, at that time, cited complications in the negotiations over creative comtrol, production budget and merchandising royalties. Sadly, it appears that the rumors of his departure are true.

On April 5th, in a series of tweets, he confirmed that he would not be attached to the project.

After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

Deadline is reporting that Showtime released an official statement expressing disappointment that an agreement could not be reached, but they are not scrapping the project altogether. Here's Showtime's statement, from Deadline's website:

“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”

It seems that if the Twin Peaks revival is to happen at all, it will have to go on without David Lynch.

The X-files is Back!

It's finally official - Fox released a press release this morning confirming they've put The X-files back into the production. The seminal 90s sci-fi TV show, featuring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, is still highly celebrated amongst its fanbase, with its popularity justifying two feature films after it was cancelled. Now, thanks to that same fan demand, the show will return to Fox with it's two leads, and original creator Chris Carter at the helm.

David Tennant joins cast of Marvel's new series "A.K.A. Jessica Jones" for Netflix

It's just been announced that David Tennant - yes! The Doctor - will be joining the cast of Marvel's new series for Netflix titled "A.K.A. Jessica Jones."

A former super-hero trying to rebuild her life as a private detective, Jessica Jones keeps getting drawn into cases involving people with unusual abilities. David Tennant is cast as her nemesis Killgrave - a villain from her past, he pops up again to wreak havoc in her new life.

In the comics,  Killgrave was the real name of the Purple Man, a villain with mind control powers who used them to dominate Jessica and make her into his personal slave for months - one of the main reasons she quit being a superhero.

As any fan of David Tennant's incarnation of The Doctor will tell you, he will be able to pull this off with no problem. My prediction is that he will most likely play this as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" thing - we KNOW he's evil, but he's just so damn likable!
