The Legend of Korra Video Game? Not great...

It is with a heavy heart and great remorse that I am here today to report that the new Legend of Korra video game is a bit of a flop.

While at work I read that reviews of the game had given it some of their lowest scores of the year. But I mean - come on. Platinum Games doing a Legend of Korra title?  I had to put those articles aside tonight, and I knew I was just going to have to play it myself.

I...don't want to say the reports were mistaken, but they definitely aren't too far off.  This was particularly disappointing, given that the development company—Platinum Games—had released several critically acclaimed games such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Vanquish.

Four Elemental Reasons why you should be watching Avatar: the Legend of Korra

     The Legend of Korra is not a very controversial show, at least among Avatar fans. It is neither disappointing to these fans as a departure from Avatar: The Last Airbender, nor so well received that it experiences the evangelical zeal the first series inspired. But what it is is solid. The show is a solid sequel, a solid kid's show, just solid television in general. Few people think Legend of Korra as better than The Last Airbender, and I typically think of these two shows as different expressions of the same narrative, with their unique strengths and weaknesses. While I cannot barely scratch the details that should be considered to rate one of these shows above the other, I did just see the newest episode of LoK and I have good news for anyone whose attention is straying. If you have not yet seen this new episode, or are a season or two behind, keep watching. Here is why.....

We've literally just finished reviewing the finale of the Legend of Korra, which means that it's time to settle in for a nice long wait. It was a couple of years between Seasons One and Two, after all. No new Korra for the time being then, I guess I'll just watch-

The Legend of Korra is coming back October 3rd?

Yes, in a pretty stunning move, Nickelodeon has decided to not make anybody wait for more Korra. While they're not going full Netflix and releasing the whole season at once, starting in a few weeks, we're getting more Korra on our internets every single Friday. Just not on our TVs, because Nick doesn't want us to do that anymore.

Is the Legend of Korra Really Being Cancelled?

The internet was set ablaze today when rumors of cancellation circulated the web for the hit show “The Legend of Korra” on Nickelodeon. The show is currently in the middle of its third season, and is a sequel to the groundbreaking “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” which ran from 2005 to 2008. As of this writing, there has been no official statement or press release by the studio itself, although the creators of the show have made remarks regarding the show’s future.

Michael DiMartino, who created the Avatar series with Bryan Konietzko, posted on his Facebook community page “There is 1 new episode this Friday at 8, then the rest of the season will be available from various sites online.” Konietzko also posted an image to his personal Tumblr blog assuring fans that the series was not cancelled, but was simply “moving to digital.”

Speculation for the move has ranged from ratings concerns to demographics issues, but until an official statement is released, speculation is all we have. Korra was shown a great deal of support by the studio when it debuted in 2012, signing on for more content before the first season even finished. However, that support seems to have waned in the last two years, despite being contracted through a fourth season. Some have suggested that the rapid broadcasting over the last month was due to a leak of the first episodes earlier in the summer.

Regardless of Nickelodeon’s reasons, the DiMartino’s Facebook post indicates that at least one new episode will still broadcast this Friday (as opposed to the two new episodes everyone was expecting). Fans of the show eagerly await further news at this weekend’s San Diego Comic Con.

UPDATE: The Korra Nation Fan Page has come down with an official word. Korra is NOT cancelled, it's moving to digital as we already knew. Here's the full release:

"Hey Korra Nation! Phew. Some of you may have heard versions of this news elsewhere, but here’s the official word. After this Friday’s on-air premiere of Episode 8 “The Terror Within” at 8/7c, all remaining Book 3 episodes will move to a digital rollout. That means two things: 1) Korra is NOT cancelled, 2) the remaining episodes will roll out weekly on Nick.com and the Nick app beginning August 1, as well as on platforms like Amazon, Google Play, Xbox and Hulu.

Thousands of you have been asking to watch this incredible show online, so hopefully this news works in your favor. Mike and Bryan created a breath-taking season for us all…so get ready to watch it all go down!!!

The Legend of Korra: Season 3 Trailer!

The Legend of Korra is a polarizing show - so many people want so many things from the sequel to The Last Airbender, that reactions to it range from love to hate to everything in between. Me, personally, I love the show. I haven't bonded with the characters the way I did with Aang, Sokka, Katara and Zuko, but I have enjoyed the first two seasons, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it can go in the future, especially now that the writers aren't tied down with the idea that they're only a mini-series.
