Marvel's Movie Schedule through 2019 revealed!

Marvel Studios, the folks behind the monster hits The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, had a special press event today to announce something "secret." Speculation ranged from announcing actors in specific films to announcing their entire slate for the next few years. Well, it turns out...they did all of that.

UPDATE: The Infinity War Teaser Trailer was recorded by some kind soul. Check it out!

First up! The news that was all but confirmed a few weeks ago. Captain America 3 will be:

Robert Downey Jr will be joining the film to jump start the war between Iron Man and Captain America, and Downey and Evans were both at the event to try and win fans over to their side. Next up:

While we have no confirmation - yet - that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing him, we do know WHEN the good Doctor's movie is coming, and we have confirmation that it will be directed by Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson.

Next up!

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, thanked everyone for making Guardians of the Galaxy the Number One Movie of the Year. So, as a reward, we all get the sequel a few months early! All right! Meanwhile, taking over the Guardians' former summer slot:

The world of Asgard ends in Thor: Ragnarok. Not many details were released at the event, but we know what Ragnarok has meant for Thor in the past. When it happened in the comics, Asgard was destroyed and Thor died, only to return as an evil clone in Civil War (probably won't happen in the MCU) and finally, as himself in J. Michael Straczynsk's acclaimed run. What will happen here? We'll find out in 2017. Next up!

Marvel's taking aim at DC's sudden reputation for diversity by releasing a film for their premiere African superhero, the Black Panther. This film got the most information for any film in production so far. We know two things, it's star: Chadwick Boseman, from 42:

He's had several acclaimed performances in the past few years, and he should certainly be able to carry T'Challa's part. We also know what he'll be wearing:

Which looks suitably amazing. It fits the comic book approach, but adds a touch of realism that the MCU has been known for.

Speaking of diversity, Carol Corps, get ready. Your Captain will be coming to the big screen in 2018. While that's a long way to wait, the fact that they're releasing Carol's movie as a summer tentpole speaks volumes about how much faith they have in the character. I'm really excited to see what they do with her - and I hope they hire some female talent behind the scenes, too.

The last non-Avengers news is the release date for the Inhumans movie. Look, I don't know about this one. The Inhumans were always even weirder than the Guardians...but I hold out a lot of hope, because it's Marvel and they haven't let me down yet.

Finally, the biggest news. Prepare yourself for a long wait between 2018 and 2019, because the rumors were true. Right before the next logo came up, Marvel showed this trailer, which ended on this image:

And then they hit us with this:

We know the gems are out there. We know Thanos is coming. And now we know that we'll have to wait a year to find out what happens after the first Infinity War movie. Is this likely to be the big team up that's been rumored, where everyone and their brother shows up? You bet your ass it will be.

Marvel knocked it out of the park today. I couldn't possibly be more excited about what the future holds. Now bask in the glory of the full timeline, via our friends at Aggressive Comix.
