Diego Luna, from Elysium, Cast in Rogue One

According to the fine people at Variety, yet another lead in Rogue One has been cast, and it's Diego Luna from Elysium, Milk, The Terminal, and Y Tu Mama Tambien. While no other details have been offered on how Luna might be playing, it's really great to see another diverse cast member joining our favorite galaxy far, far away.

And look at that face. That face screams "dashing rogue." I mean, if there's one thing this film obviously needs, it's a dashing rogue.

Cosplay Shenanigans: Building and Being Admiral Trench

When I got passes for Star Wars Celebration, I was a bit apprehensive about cosplaying at all.

I remember this story Kevin Smith told about the time when some kid went up to him and asked to take a picture.  He later found out that  the kid thought (or joked) that he thought that he was the X-Wing Pilot Porkins.

"What have I gotten myself into?!" I asked myself.  I know the modern cosplay community is very accepting and tolerant.  Hell, there's even a lot of "Cosplay is not consent" placards at Star War Celebration (though people do tend to forget it is a reminder about ALL harassment, not just creepy advances).  I heard that story, and I hear about these Star Wars cosplayer groups being very "Accurate-minded," some even inspect and accept or deny club memberships based on such factors.

Geekly Roundup for May 10th - Superheroic Mother's Day Edition!

This week on Geekly Roundup, Mark, Jon and Mike discuss 3D printed D&D Monsters, which turns into a discussion about why Fantasy doesn't seem to be able to break through to the mainstream. Then they discuss a hacker getting banned in Guild Wars 2, which turns into a discussion on continuing to consume media you hate, and why we do that. THEN they discuss Agent Carter's return, which turns into a discussion on the availability of TV, piracy, and binge-watching vs experiencing TV week by week! It's a world of fascinating tangents this week!

Joss Whedon is Not Confirmed to Direct Anything, Especially Star Wars

Folks, please, take things on the internet with a grain of salt. I know we're all excited about the upcoming Star Wars trilogy, and a lot of people want Joss Whedon in the director's chair, but the honest trust is easy to obtain if you spend two seconds reading the article you're all sharing around.

One of the worst, most clickbaity "news" sites this week decided to take some random speculation from a random podcast (and as the host of a random podcast, I feel particularly qualified to speak on this), and wrote an article entitled "Joss Whedon confirmed for Star Wars." This is, of course, untrue. If Joss had signed up for Star Wars, it would be shouted from the rooftops on StarWars.com, Variety, Entertainment Weekly - you know, reputable news sites, not a place that literally has a "number of shares" counter ticking up on the right.

Seriously, never share anything from Moviepilot. They're the worst.

Since we're wildly speculating, I'd much rather see Disney and Lucasfilm continue their current trend of hiring up and coming young directors with a specific vision to direct Star Wars, like Rian Johnson and Josh Trank. Joss would be a fun choice, but he's already made a billion dollar movie with a sequel on the way and he's stated repeatedly that it nearly killed him, twice. When he says he wants to go "work on his own projects," I'd bet dollars to donuts he's talking about something more akin to Much Ado About Nothing than jumping into a galaxy far, far away.

Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars

A Star Wars Playlist for your May the 4th.

May the Forth be with you, everybody. And while you're slaving away at your desk, dreaming of flying a starship through the heavens or battling an evil Sith Lord with blazing swords or even about kissing your sister full on the mouth, you're gonna need some background tunes. That's what we're here for - time to assail your senses with our favorite Star Wars tunes, some you've heard before, some of which were released today. Go pay some artists for their work, make a playlist, and rock out with your Ysalamiri out.

Two More Characters from The Force Awakens Revealed!

Vanity Fair was granted access to the set of The Force Awakens last year, and they've finally gotten the green light to publish the incredible behind-the-scenes photo shoot they did while they were there. In addition to revealing new worlds to discover, the photoshoot also revealed who, exactly, Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong'o would be playing. Spoilers ahead!

Josh Trank Leaves Star Wars Anthology

Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle and the new Fantastic Four film, has departed his upcoming Star Wars Anthology film. The film was meant to be the next standalone Star Wars film after Rogue One, but no other details are known about the project - at times it's been rumored to be an origin story for Boba Fett, or a Princess Leia film, but now that Rogue One is revealed to be none of the things it was rumored to be, all of those bets are off the table. No real word was given as to why Trank left, except that he wanted to pursue his own original creative works. It's entirely possible that he was simply burnt out after making Fantastic Four and going straight into another major blockbuster. His full statement, and Lucasfilm's response, after the jump.

Time to (Legally) Binge-watch Star Wars Rebels

If you haven't caught up yet on the excellent Star Wars Rebels, now is your chance. Star Wars.com has been nice enough to put the entire first season online from now until Monday, leaving your weekend with only one goal: Binge watch all thirteen episodes. As the episodes are only 20 minutes long, that leaves you at less than seven hours. So you can cram in a watch of the original trilogy right after and still not have taken up an entire day. Trust us, it's worth it, and you'll want to be caught up when Season 2 launches later this year.

Star Wars X-Wing Bay Area Store Championship

Do you ever have that feeling that you just came up with a great idea, only to find out that someone else thought of it first?  That must be how Mike felt when he told me that there was an X-Wing store championship for the Bay Area going on.

In case you hadn't heard of what seems to be the fastest growing miniature game around, Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Games is a fast paced, fighter focused, miniature dogfighting game produced by Fantasy Flight Games.  Its starter set comes with almost everything that you need to play the game, from dice, to measuring sticks, to asteroid and space debris, making it one of the most accessible games available.  It has a large collection of pre-painted, medium detail plastic miniatures that come with their own stands, bases with information, and order dials, so the amount of time that you spend preparing for a game is quite minimal.  This might not attract those who are interested in the hobbying aspect of a miniatures game, but with the relatively low buy in cost, you will have plenty of time and money left over to buy, assemble, customize, paint and play that 10 man infantry squad from that grim dark space combat game you love so much.  Or you could just buy the Imperial line of X-Wing miniatures.

Star Wars Celebration Day 4: Rogue One Awakens

The final day of Star Wars Celebration was short, but booooy was it sweet. We learned more than we ever thought we would about the first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One, we saw the props from The Force Awakens, and we learned about next year's Celebration for the first time. Spoilers abound from this point on.

Star Wars Celebration Day Three:

Saturday of Star Wars Celebration was an incredible experience, but it was also the most crowded - while days Zero, One and Two  felt a little smaller and more intimate, Day Three was the full-on Comic-con experience. Lines were doubled in length, crowds were everywhere...and it was maybe the most fun we've had at the con all week. Star Wars Celebration Day Zero - From Despair to Joy

Day Zero - 11pm.

 I've just gotten out of a far-too-expensive cab ride, and checked into my hotel. I received a text message while one the flight - one of my friends was incredible enough to head down to the line at 9pm, two hours ago, to get us a spot in the room for the Celebration Opening Ceremonies. So I grab my camera, ask the front desk for directions, and start walking.

Almost immediately outside my hotel, I run into two guys dressed as Jedi. And I know this is going to be good.

Second trailer for The Force Awakens is INCREDIBLE

Today is a great day. Everything is wonderful, the sun on shining, birds are singing, and I didn't get any sleep last night because I was laying on concrete for thirteen hours, waiting for the chance to see the Star Wars Celebration Opening Ceremonies. A full report on that in a few minutes, but for now, a present for you all.

This is the second, incredible trailer for the Force Awakens. It had me bawling from happiness by the end of the first thirty seconds. Do NOT miss it - hit the jump to see why.

Disney Axes Three Feature-Length Star Wars Films from Canon

In the upcoming paperback edition of Star Wars: A New Dawn there is a handy infographic that clearly outlines the new canon of Star Wars since Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm. Last year Disney had already released a brief list of canon including Star Wars episodes I-VI. As a fanbase we were prepared to see a lot disappear from the canon, largely considering the expanded universe. Pivotal characters such as Jaina Solo, Mara Jade, Jagged Fel, Kyle Katarn, and the development of Wedge Antilles have been removed from canon. 

EA Teases Battlefront in Epic Video

We already knew that DICE was developing the next game in the Star Wars Battlefront series, and we know that it's going to debut the new game in a week at Star Wars Celebration. Now, DICE has released a behind the scenes video showing the incredible amount of research and work they've done to get the feel of Star Wars right for this new game. They've gone to the Lucasfilm archives and studied the original props. They visited the actual filming locations for Hoth and Endor to recreate the feel of the worlds. And they show a brief selection of in-engine footage, to show you exactly what this new Battlefront is capable of. It's an incredible first look - take a peek after the jump.

Marvel released a nice little teaser today for their Free Comic Book Day issue of their All-New, All-Different Avengers, with two members revealed and four in shadow.
